Early Treatment for Autism Is Critical, New Report Says

DESCRIPTION

The article highlights the results and recommendations of a significant “new clinical report on autism” which now is classified as autism spectrum disorder, or A.S.D.

“The salient diagnostic characteristics of A.S.D. are persistent problems with social communication, including problems with conversation, with nonverbal communication and social cues, and with relationships, together with restricted repetitive behavior patterns, including repetitive movements, rigid routines, fixated interests and sensory differences.”  The article reports on causes, assessments, and most importantly beginning behavioral treatments as early as possible even if a formal diagnosis has not been made but suspected.  This article is a great resource for both teaching and for students interested in the topic and even for consideration as a career in the field.
