10 Health Conditions That Are Linked to Depression

DESCRIPTION

This is an excellent brief article regarding depression and 10 health conditions.   This type of situation is called co-morbidity in the medical field.  Frequently depression may occur before, during, and after the onset of a medical condition, and both can become chronic.  The article discusses how depression accompanies the following conditions: cancer, chronic pain, thyroid problems, heart disease, lupus, diabetes, HIV, infections, Multiple Sclerosis, and Vitamin B12 deficiency.   The recommendations are that individuals seek medical attention and discuss the depression issues with their treating physician, psychiatrist, and/or psychologist.   This article can be useful in teaching along with the chapters on abnormal behavior and health psychology issues to bring the issue of depression into the context of health related problems.
