DESCRIPTION

From the Google Play and  iTunes Store

Reach Out Editions helps colleges, secondary schools, military bases, local governments, and corporations connect members of their communities who are in need to both in-house and community resources, such as rape crisis centers, helplines, legal aid services, medical care providers, counseling services, and emergency responders. The college and university editions focus on campus sexual misconduct, although some schools have chosen to expand the scope to other areas such as academic support, substance abuse, depression, disabilities, identity issues, etc. Check out your college’s edition to find out what’s covered. High school and middle school editions address many of the challenges facing teenagers today, including bullying, harassment, abuse, eating disorders, healthy relationships, low self-esteem, and identity issues.

Because every organization is unique, every edition is customized—but all editions empower users by putting actionable information at their fingertips. Reach Out enables you find the answers to questions such as: What are your rights? What are your options? Who can help you and how can they help?

HOW TO USE THIS APP

Students experiencing serious trauma should always be referred to appropriate medical and psychological service centers on campus and in their communities.  However, for many reasons students may wish to remain anonymous and seek out other means to handle their problems.  The app has been developed to help them find community resources to deal with the problems.  Again, students should be encouraged to seek help directly through the college services that will provide resources to help.

The “Psychology Update” and “Psychology Website of the Week” focus on the issues of sexual harassment and abuse.  This app can be discussed with the class in conjunction with the Update and Website as a means to understand the “social” in the bio/psycho/social aspects of sexual harassment and violence.   Students can examine the app and write a reaction paper to determine it’s usefulness — this would be conducted in conjunction with the chapters on counseling, therapy, and health psychology.
