Psychology Update — 3 Articles on Research Issues & The IRB & The Science Of Psychology
These three articles address issues of research, consent, and oversight by Institutional Research Board (the IRB). The issues and debate examine the policies and procedures related to research issues. Is an IRB approval always a necessity when conducting certain types of research which would otherwise be considered not in any way dangerous to subjects? Can researchers police themselves? Do new policies need to be developed?
These are excellent articles that can be used in all courses in Psychology as well as at the graduate level.

•What is the purpose of the IRB?
•Why were these policies developed?
•Are there types of research in the field wherein the IRB oversight would definitely be considered important? Same question but wherein the IRB oversight would not be necessary at all?
•What is the argument both for and against researchers determining the appropriateness of using the IRB versus their own judgment? What ethical issues are involved in this issue?
