This week’s Psychology Update features three articles related to the use of the Creative Arts in Therapy. The expressive Creative Arts therapies include Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and Dance/Movement Therapy. The articles will be useful in teaching the Psychotherapy unit in the textbook as well as useful when discussing careers in Psychology.

This is an excellent magazine article that highlights Creative Arts Therapy in a hospital setting. The article focuses on how these therapies are applied to patients undergoing serious health issues. “The traditional healing arts include art, music, dance/movement, poetry/writing and drama therapies. These approaches combine artistic expression with psychological awareness, and are led by a licensed or board-certified creative arts therapist.” Several examples as well as a list of the benefits of these therapies are provided. As with the other articles presented in this update, this approach will be useful in teaching the Psychotherapy unit in the textbook as well as useful when discussing careers in Psychology.
