TITLE

These 5 Habits May Help You Live 10 Years Longer, Study Says

 

DESCRIPTION

A longitudinal study followed and surveyed the habits of it’s participants for approximately 34 years.  The details of the research are briefly discussed in the study.  It was found that five lifestyle habits correlated with longer lives and longer term health.  “The habits are recognizable — eating a healthy dietexercising regularly, drinking only in moderation, not smoking and maintaining a healthy body weight.”  (This article can be used with the chapters on Health Psychology, adult development and aging, as well as nature-nurture issues.)

•Ask the students to read the brief article and discuss the type of methodology used for the study.

•What are the 5 habits listed in the article?   

•How can the article be discussed as part of Health Psychology, adult development and aging, and/or nature-nurture issues?   Regarding the latter:  how do the findings support the idea that nurture (the environment) plays as an important role in aging as does biology (nature)?
